Odyssey of the Sea

Mom loves gambling.

One day, she won a ticket to a cruise ship.
But I was the only one she brought, because nobody else could go.

After a four hour drive to Fort. Lauderdale, we arrive at the airport-looking building and pass through security. I didn’t really feel like coming because I was the only one there. All I would do was eat and swim alone. But you can never tell mom that you want to stay home.

We enter the main lobby, which was packed. Mom was kind of walking around confused, so I told her to take a picture of the map.
She didn’t.

Eventually, we went up the elevator and got to our room. The room was small, had a balcony, and a nice bathroom. We stayed there for a little bit.

Then we went downstairs to ask for wifi. I don’t know why, but wifi costs $160 per person. So we just bought for one device and switched wifi between devices.

After that, we went over to the solarium, which had a huge wall of glass showing the dock. There were many seats, and even a stage. Mom was really hungry so she got some food from the cafe right next to it.

She got Potato soup, and I got a sandwich. I forgot what kind of sandwich, but it was pretty good. There was also juice, so I got that too.

We went to deck 15, which was the top of the ship. There were pools and hot tubs with people already in them.  Mom was taking a bunch of pictures so I stuck around for about an hour.

Then we just stayed in the room until dinner.

We ate at the main dining room, which was a big place and had a big  hole in the ceiling so you could see the second floor. I ordered calamari and a ribeye. I also tried escargot because mom keeps ordering things just so I have to eat it.

We then went to our room, but mom went downstairs to gamble. I was on my phone all night because I couldn’t connect to wifi on my iPad.

The next day

Mom was looking for a place for breakfast and ended up wandering into a buffet. The place had windows on the side so you could see the ocean, which was nice, but the food wasn’t very good.

Most of it was eggs, sausages, and bacon that was stuck together. I ended up grabbing a clump of bacon and had to eat all of it.

We also arrived at an island called Coco-Cay. It was a small island full of trees, blue waters, and shops. We watched it from the 15th deck, and then decided to go down there.
One of the staff said that we couldn’t go to the island without my card. I guess my wristband was not what you were supposed to get. We went back up and got it.

We went past the dock, which took a while because mom wanted me to take a picture of her standing next the the bottom of the ship. But we we made it to the beach. It was really blue, like on youtube or tv.

We sat down in a chair and just waited. I waited for about 30 minutes, and then decided to go look around. I saw a guy on a kayak, and since I was bored, I asked mom if we could go kayaking. She said yes, and made me wait for her. For a while. I waited for 10 minutes. Then 20. Then I started burying myself. Twice. Then she started playing the same music on repeat for 20 minutes for facebook. I kept asking her but she kept saying 1 more minute, but she said that about 20 times in 20 minutes. There was also no wifi so I just had to sit there for 2 hours.

She finally got up, but when we were walking around, I couldn’t find a place for kayaking. So we gave up, and I just went into the water. Even though the air was hot, the water was cold. But since I had already gone in, I just had to sit there. After an hour of sitting in the water alone, I got out, and it felt even colder than the water. And I also had a bunch of sand in my sandals, which was like sandpaper every time I took a step. While I was waiting to dry off, mom made me get in line for icecream because it was about to close. She went and got food from the buffet, and started walking back to the ship. I still had sand in my sandals, so I took them off. Mom didn’t want me to for some reason.

At night, I got some pizza from downstairs and went to sleep. Mom stayed downstairs gambling.

The third day, we went to the buffet again for lunch. This time it wasn’t bad. I orange chicken, butter chicken, pasta and some lemonade. We ate by the window.
But after that, mom made me go watch a show in the solarium. It was about this guy, who opens a book because he wants an adventure. Its called the book. And then people started dancing. Mom was asleep the entire time, and only woke up to take pictures.

After that, I took a walk outside, and mom went to go do something. The front of the ship was really windy, with almost nobody there. Then I waited at the hibachi restaurant for mom. It really stinks outside the restaurant. I waited for 20 minutes for mom, having to hold my breath every time I got close to the restaurant.

The people in there were singing the abc’s, twinkle twinkle little stars, and other songs like that. It was really noisy. I got Takoyaki, which is fried octopus. I then chose the lobster and scallops, and we waited for the chef to come.

When he came, he made us fried rice and also threw chicken for us to catch. When I got my lobsters and scallops, I also got my octopus. It was all pretty good.

Then I got to my room, got a bit of pizza and lemonade, and went to sleep. And mom went gambling.

Today we arrived at a town I forgot the name of, but it was something like Georgetown. Mom didn’t choose any tours, so we just hopped on a bus, and onto another beach. The air was hot, and for some reason, the sand was really smooth. I just sat there again.

And she also made me take pictures again. And I have to keep taking a bunch of photos of the same thing because she says its not good enough. And she tells me what to do, and I do it. But she still tells me its not good enough. And we run out of time, so we go back home.

Then she makes me play bingo, cause she wants to gamble even more. Obviously, we didn’t win anything.

The Solarium bistro was a small restaurant open at night. They serve food on really tiny plates, so they force you to keep getting more plates if you want more food, which makes you get less food. They didn’t have many food options. All there was were fish, lamb, chicken, calamari, and some other stuff that mom would eat. The fish was okay, so was the lamb, but the calamari was the best thing they had. The calamari was a 7/10.

The next day, we ate at the buffet and looked over Jamaica. We looked from the top deck to get a better view. It was hilly and full of trees.

And of course, mom didn’t make a reservation for any tours. So we hopped on a random bus and went to a random beach. They gave us free wifi, but like every other time, I go in the water, wait for mom so we can leave, and get forced to take pictures for her. That was it. That is all I did in Jamaica.

The last day, mom woke me up and made me watch another show. She wouldn’t tell me what show (she probably didn’t even know), and said that I have to try everything (I sat on a beach for 2 hours on every island).

So we walked over to the theater, and watch something that looked like power rangers mixed with marvel. They were dancing, and singing, and stuff, and mom was sleeping. This time she didn’t take pictures. She stayed asleep.

We then went to Giovanni’s, an Italian restaurant. I got chicken Parmesan and calamari. They also gave us bread and marinara sauce, which was good. So was the chicken and the calamari.

Then we did a skydiving kind of thing where you go into a tall tube and theres a bunch of wind that makes you float like you are falling.

And we at at Giovanni’s again because it was good. I wanted pizza because last time, mom said the pizza here was good. But she didn’t want me to get pizza. And when I was getting it anyway, she made me choose egg pizza, which tasted bad.

Then we went to sleep. This time she didn’t gamble because we had to wake up early to go home.

And the next day, we went home.
