Chapter 1 | Where it all began… {Emily POV}
My name is Emily Hart. I am in the 6th grade (its almost the first day of 6th grade). I am very excited since its my first day at my new school. School starts on Monday, and today was Sunday night. I was lying in bed waiting for myself to fall asleep, but I was buried in excitement I couldn’t even close my eyes on command. Finally, I fell asleep at around 11 pm.
When I woke up, I was really tired, which was not a good way to start the first day of school, especially on a Monday, since basically everyone knows Monday is the worst day of the week. I wore my favorite striped pink and white T-shirt with long sleeves and baggy jeans. I also wore my necklace with a bear and a red heart in the middle. I got the necklace from my grandma on my 6th birthday, now I was 12 years old. I always wear my necklace. I decided to style my dirty blonde hair into a high ponytail. I have straight hair and it was slightly wavy. I swept my curtain bangs under my ear and headed downstairs where I was greeted by my mom’s warm smile and fluffy pancakes.
“Surprise!” mom said.
I ate in happiness and mom even let me have a sip of her coffee! She wants me to have energy on special. My mom took my “first day of school picture” and waved goodbye at me as I put on my black shoes and rushed to the bus. I found a seat in the back of the bus. Soon a pretty girl with black wavy hair and bangs sat next to me. “Hi I’m Lena! Can I sit here?” the girl asked, and I nodded.
“I’m Emily, nice to meet you,” I said.
Lena was nice and was wearing a Mickey Mouse red Sweater with baggy jeans. She had a denim headband and her backpack was plain black with Disney pins and the letter “L” as a pin. We talked and Lena was pretty cool! I didn’t really have friends at my old school. I preferred to keep quiet because no one in my class was really interested in the same things that I was, so Lena was a nice friend.
When we got to the school, it was big and loud. People were chatting to others about their summer break and laughing a lot. Lena taught me some things about the school, and soon, it was time to go to the first class, sadly me and Lena had different classes so we waved goodbye and I started walking to class. Suddenly, I bumped into a girl with soda and she hit her friend.
Chapter 2 | “Pain in the Back” {Emily POV}
“What is wrong with you?!” the girl yelled angrily. I froze in panic.
“I-I’m sorry… I was really just trying to get to class.” I tried to explain but the girl just rolled her eyes.
“Yeah right! My friend just lost her dog and her grandma just passed away, and now she and I have soda sweetness on us,” the girls looked at me with no mercy and I started walking away. Except it turned out that she was in my class! We sat far away from each other though, so that was good.
At lunch time, I told Lena what happened.
“Oh no… I think the girl you were describing is.. Charlie Thomas. She isn’t a mean girl, but she can be a total pain in the back if you make her upset,” Lena explained to me. I told Lena the girl who I bumped into had blonde, straight hair, an oversized green jacket with a plain white shirt under it. I said she had beige cargos on and was wearing a gold bracelet with pearl earrings.
“What do you mean by “total pain in the back?” I asked, nervous. Lena scratched her head and said, “pr-pranks…”
Now I was worried. if she pranked me, I could be the laughing stock of the whole school! I whispered quietly to myself, “Charlie Thomas please, I’m sorry.”
After school, me and Lena went home together on the bus. Then Lena asked, “Hey can I hang out at your house on Friday?” and I answered with a happy, “Yes”.
We stopped at Lena’s neighborhood first and said goodbye. When I got home, I showered and changed into my bunny PJ’s. We didn’t have homework on the first day of school so I logged onto my laptop and got a message from Lena (we exchanged numbers). I opened my DM with Lena and read the text.
“here are charlie’s socials. they should tell you a lot about her. sorry I don’t use grammar while texting it takes too long.”
I clicked on Charlie’s TikTok account and it was just a picture of her snowboarding. Her account was titled “char–>lie”, which I personally think was pretty cute and creative. Charlie was pretty popular with 87k follows. She posted edits and things she did in real life. Charlie was almost one whole year older then me. Lena told me that she stayed back in 3nd grade. Charlie also posted pranks that were super smart, I even wondered for a minuet how she stayed back a grade.
One of Charlie’s posts was titled: “got in trouble for planting a stink bomb in a girl’s locker”. Now I was so confused by this girl. Did she love pranking people for revenge, or for fun? Then it hit me. She was doing it for both! Soon my parents called me for dinner.
“Hey Emily! Sorry I couldn’t be here this morning, something urgent came up at work and I had to go,” dad apologized and I told him it was fine.
“So how was school? And why were you upstairs so much?” mom asked as she placed down a pizza box. “Your favorite! Half Hawaiian pizza and half veggie pizza,” mom announced.
“Thanks mom! Oh and I made a new friend named Lena and she is so nice and funny. We have a lot in common. And I was texting her earlier,” I said and dad smiled. Mom nodded and we talked about our day together.
After dinner it was already 8 pm so I dad reminded me to do my long list of chores.
“Don’t forget about washing the dishes!” mom called out when I was upstairs, loading the dirty clothes into the laundry machine. “Yes mom!” I replied. I thought of all the chores I have to do. Laundry, dishes, clean your room if needed, take out the trash if needed, clean the bathroom if needed, reload the laundry room if needed, lock the doors, change the sheets and get rid of expired foods. Today I only needed to do the laundry, lock the doors, wash the dishes, change the sheets in each room (2 bedroom not including the guest bedroom).
After the chores, it was 9 pm so I got ready for bed. Mom and dad tucked me in, and I fell asleep at 9:30 after watching YouTube for 10 mins.
Chapter 3 | The Prank {Charlie’s POV}
I woke up at 6:40 am and got ready. Today I wore a denim overall and wore a red puffy long sleeve sweater under it. The sleeves had pink hearts and I quickly brushed my hair. My hair looked super silky and smooth. I decided to keep my hair down because it was shiny today. I wore my white shoes and grabbed my yellow backpack that had keychains that would jingle. I had some pins and I made sure I had everything in it. I looked in the mirror and went downstairs.
Both my parents were already at work so I just gobbled down some cereal and made sure to put in my pearl earrings while eating. I also always wear my golden bracelet. I put on matching rings that were also gold. As I left the house, I locked the doors then quickly biked to school. At school, I walked up to my friend Kenzie and talked to her.
“Do you have the box and letter?” I asked Kenzie and she nodded. I did a little “investigation” on the girl who ran into me yesterday. It turns out her name was Emily Hart, which I think is basic, I mean Charlie Thomas is also basic, but thats besides the point. I slid the note and box into Emily’s locker when she left it open for a second as she bent down to pick up a few books she dropped.
I quickly tip-toed away and me and Kenzie high fived as we waited for Emily to pick up the note and open the box. Finally, Emily opened the letter that Kenzie typed out. The letter said:
Sorry for being kind of rude yesterday,
I left you a gift 😉
– charlie thomas
Emily opened the box and screamed as me and Kenzie burst out laughing. We left a creepy picture of a clown inside and Emily looked at us. Me and Kenzie left, but we couldn’t stop giggling.
Chapter 4 | Revenge {Emily’s POV}
I was furious, but I continued my day. At lunch, I told Lena about what happened. “Why don’t you just tell on them?” Lena asked, mouthful of turkey sandwich.
“But if I did, that would be the end of pranks AND revenge!” I complained.
“WAIT! I get it now! You are going to get your revenge!” Lena concluded.
“Bingo,” I said.
Chapter 5 | Grossed Out {Charlie’s POV}
The prank yesterday was a total success and I couldn’t stop grinning. Today I would keep normal though because I needed to save my energy for volleyball, which I had after school. Today I wore a plain white crop top and I wore my green cargos. I wore my black jacket and put my hair into a messy bun since I was super late, again. I just ate toast that my mom left for me. Then I biked super quickly to school.
Turns out I got to school right before the doors closed. But I only had 5 mins to run up to the 2nd story of the school so I could go to class.
I was 7 seconds late and saw that Emily and some other girls were laughing at me since I looked like a total mess. I felt like crying.
At lunch I realized I left my lunch at home. So I grabbed my five dollars that I always carry around just for emergencies and went to my friends.
“I forgot my lunch, be right back,” I said.
When I got back to my usual seat my friends Camila and Kenzie were talking and laughing so I just sat down without thinking.
*FART*
I screamed so loud and jumped up. I looked down at my chair and saw one of those fart bombs where you sit on it and it makes a noise. The fart bomb was small and people just thought I farted really loudly. My friends jumped up and plugged their noses. The fart bomb had letters that said:
“payback!! -Emily Hart”
Now I was really mad. I felt like bursting into tears. Before I knew it, I felt hot angry tears slipping out of my eyes. People looked at me like I was some crazy girl and some recorded me. Camila and Kenzie led me into the bathroom where Emily came into right after us.
Chapter 6 | Bathroom Talk {third person}
Charlie looked ready to pounce on Emily. Lena was with Emily and the girls looked deep into Charlie’s eyes.
“Don’t act like I’m the bad guy here. You clearly stared all this. So technically, this is just karma,” Emily said.
“You are still evil though. Charlie is a good person,” Camila said as she patted Charlie’s back with Kenzie.
“You need Lena to help you pull the trick off. Without her, none of this would of happened. So face it. You need Lena, stop thinking you are so great,” Charlie spoke up.
“Thats not true, Emily is a genius. She just needed me to know where Charlie sat,” Lena said. Emily agreed and she walked away with Lena.
From that moment and on, the two girls Emily and Charlie declared war with each other.
Chapter 7 | Embarrassed… Again {Charlie’s POV}
At volleyball practice, Coach Lizzie said there was a new member. Everyone was excited. Our team has been losing the game against our biggest rival team for the past 3 years, so I didn’t think this new person could save us, no matter how good Coach Lizzie makes them sound.
But then I realized the new girl was no other then EMILY HART. Life just couldn’t stand to see me happy. But I didn’t think Emily could beat me.
On the warm up, she was quick and fast. I realized this was how she got such a nice tan! I like tans, but it didn’t look good on me because it clashed with my hair color so I tried not to get a tan. I was best on my team, but Emily quickly beat me. She was shorter then me, but very athletic.
I got so angry but them, I accidently said, “She isn’t even that good! I could beat her with my eyes closed.” Everyone gasped and Coach Lizzie said, “How about a match? Emily against Charlie?” and Emily agreed. I agreed reluctantly and was so nervous during break. When the match began, everyone was chanting Emily’s name, and not a single person said my name.
Once the match ended, Coach said I lost by 6 points! I was so embarrassed that I ran away out of the court and bursted into sobs. Camila and Kenzie were walking by and saw me crying.
After they calmed me down, I told them what happened.
“What a witch! She probs just wanted to embarrass you!” Camila said and Kenzie nodded, handing me a tissue.
“I don’t think so guys, she looked shock to see me..” I said, still crying, and the girls sighed. I bet they were tired of drama and I didn’t want to be annoying so I just squashed my feelings down and pulled myself together.
A while later, when people were starting to leave, I biked home.
Chapter 8 | hangout {Lena’s POV}
It was Friday after school, and Emily and I were having our first study and hangout/sleepover! She and I love popcorn and snacks so I got extra and set them up. My parents were Vietnamese but out of town so I was with my older brother who mostly spent his time locked up in his room playing games or doing homework. He also screams to his loud music, so today I told him to keep quiet and luckily, he agreed.
At 4:02, Emily arrived.
“Hey Emily!” I said.
“Hey Lena!” Emily said.
I got us some sparkling lemonades and we did our homework together. I get really good grades and so is Emily, but shes struggling to do her reading homework, so I was sort of tutoring her. After a good 2 hours of studying and doing homework, we decided to have snacks and sushi for dinner. We put up a movie and watched for about 2 hours. Now it was time to talk about other stuff, away from the screen.
We talking about random things before we got lots of incoming messages from school group chats and we saw that this girl Madelyn wrote on our school blog that Charlie Thomas got embarrassed by the new girl 2 times in one week! Everyone was talking about it and I realized our school magazine organizer Clementine also wrote about it and put it in our mailboxes at school!
I brought the magazine upstairs and Emily and I reviewed it. Apparently, Emily was quite popular and the class was now “fans” of her. Suddenly, I felt bad for Charlie. This must have been humiliating and a lot to handle. Then I saw that she lost about 1-2k followers because some girl posted the link to the video of Charlie being embarrassed on Charlie’s video. So now Charlie’s fans saw the video and must have unfollowed her. I know I was suppose to be on Emily’s side but I felt awful! I mean what has the world become? Suddenly, Emily started cheering loudly.
“THIS IS GREAT! I MEAN THIS IS REALLY GOOD ALMOST EVERYONE AT SCHOOL THINKS SHES EVIL!” Emily exclaimed.
“Yeah but don’t you feel bad?” I asked.
“A little.. but lets just continue talking about our games and books,” Emily said. And I nodded because I didn’t want to lose my friendship with my only friend.
Chapter 9 | The War Continues… {Kenzie’s POV}
Emily and Charlie stayed quiet and didn’t prank each other, but gave each other stares every single time they see each other. I was starting to get sick of the drama anyway.
I think everything will go smoothly, but soon, when the volleyball game comes, hopefully nothing terrifying happens.
Charlie has been pretty sad so me and Camila have been hanging out with her and we have been having some fun but She is still pretty sad. Anyways Camila put me in charge to see if Emily and Lena are up to something, but recently, they have been neutral ground.
Chapter 10 | The End. {Camila’s POV}
No one has attacked the other person in Emily and Charlie’s war, so I think everything will be fine until the volleyball game. Charlie has been tired and trying to get her moods up but shes just so sad and embarrassed recently and Kenzie and I don’t know how to help her. I guess we just wait.
